What is Exploration Pro

Exploration Pro 2 is a Minecraft-inspired sandbox where you can create and explore.

Exploration Pro 2 is a sandbox game for Android devices that requires Android 4.0 and up. The game is free to download and play, but there are some caveats to that, which we’ll discuss at the end. Exploration Pro 2—as all of the Exploration Pro games are—is heavily inspired by Minecraft.

Minecraft Pocket Edition is certainly a more polished product overall, but Exploration Pro 2 is no slouch in the refinement department. The game gets regular updates. Performance continues to be improved. The user interface is well-organized and makes creation pretty easy even on small phone screens.

What distinguishes Exploration Pro 2 from Minecraft PE is that creative mode is the purpose rather than an option. There are no creatures as there are in Minecraft. There is also no survival element, so you won’t have to eat or forage for resources. You are free to explore the world that has been generated, and you build whatever you can imagine in this voxel landscape without limitations.

Exploration Pro 2 actually allows world sizes that are larger than Minecraft PE. This is presumably because the game does not have to account for NPCs and the like. This may be appealing to the player who really enjoys the creative and explorations aspects of this style of game. Once generated, a world can be saved so that you can access whatever you build and can continue to add to it.

The game lets you move through the world. You can walk and even run. You can jump in order to clear obstacles. You can also fly, which may be Exploration Pro at its most fun. It is a blast to explore a new world this way or even get a bird’s eye view of your various creations.

Exploring and building can be a cathartic experience. The possibilities really are endless. But there is no end game to speak of, and many gamers may get bored with that. It is difficult to recommend this over Minecraft when that game delivers this kind of experience plus a lot more.

It is also worth noting that Exploration Pro 2 is ad-supported. The ads were not particularly obnoxious and were kid-safe in our experience. You also have the option to make a one-time in-app purchase to get rid of ads for good. This brings it in line with Minecraft PE, which we probably wouldn’t have an issue with except that Exploration Pro 2 also includes a slew of microtransactions.

While there are many free objects and textures to play with, there are also many that require you to buy them. You can buy them individually or as a set, and if you choose to pay for everything, it costs more than Minecraft PE overall, and that certainly makes it difficult to recommend.

Pros

  • Creation sandbox
  • Crafting system

Cons

  • Microtransactions
